There’s a really nice mall that’s just a few miles from my home. It’s in a suburb of a bigger city. We have a few professional sports teams in our city and the practice fields & stadiums aren’t too far away from this mall.
Because of this, I can usually go to the mall parking lot almost any day of the week and see really fresh cars parked casually among the mom vans and soccer SUVs.
One such beast was parked at the mall one day. I spotted it driving past us as we waited to park. It pulled into a spot just behind us.
It was a bright yellow Lamborghini – but it was, wait, it was a Lamborghini SUV! I was stunned. Up until that day I didn’t know such a vehicle existed.
I had to know more. I found out that it’s called the Lamborghini Urus.
The Lamborghini Urus SUV is as legendary as its name suggests it would be. It is sleek, stylish, and luxurious. While it has a hefty price tag, it is the most affordable vehicle in the Lamborghini lineup.
The Urus has it all, speed, spacious cabin, and the ultimate performance. Continue reading to find out all the details about the Lamborghini Urus SUV.
When Was it First Produced?
The Urus SUV is made by Lamborghini. The concept design was created by Filippo Perini and the production version by Mitja Borkert. It was unveiled in 2017 and was on the market for the 2018 model year.
The engine is not a Lamborghini original, but borrowed from the VW Group and used in the Porsche Cayenne, Bentley Continental, and Audi R8. However, Lamborghini added its own touch to the engine by slightly redesigning it so it can produce 641 hp and 627 Lb-Ft of torque.
Is the Lamborghini Urus Considered an SUV or a Crossover?
While the Urus is a mid-sized SUV, it is an SUV and not a crossover. It uses a similar platform to other luxury SUVs in the same class. The Urus is considered both a supercar and a super SUV. It marries the functionality of an SUV with the soul of a sports car.
I was surprised to learn that it’s considered a “Super SUV” as I legitimately thought I had coined that term. It has supercar heritage and performance but it’s in an SUV package. Made sense to me!
What Does Its Name Mean?
Urus is a Latin term that means wild ox. In Italian, Urus comes from the term Aurochs, which is the modern version of domestic cattle.
Since the Lamborghini logo is a bull, it’s only fitting that the name is a call back to the banner on the front of all their vehicles. Several of the Lambo models do that. For example, the Lamborghini Torofeo I used in a recent article literally means “ugly bull”.
Where is the Urus Sold and Manufactured?
The Urus is manufactured in Italy, more specifically, in Sant’Agata Bolognese. This area is located in the city of Bologna. The Urus is sold throughout the world, however, they have a limited production amount. There have been more sales in North America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and China.

The eight-speed automatic transmission handles snow and extreme weather just as well as it does the curves of a winding road. The standard tires are 21-inch wheels which makes it a monster in the snow. It plows through it as if there is no snow on the road.
What is the Top Speed of the Lamborghini Urus?
